Confessions of A Shopaholic
Must say, this was a pretty boring film. However, it made for an easy going distraction. What more do you want from something that is obviously trivial tripe? OK, so, something else to say about it. I think the most striking thing about this film was the really cute supporting actor, friend, the girl in the wedding dress to the right here. She was realy cute. Really really cute, total cutie wootie. The main actor on the other hand was dull dull dull. And somewhere deep down im sort of wondering if there was some underlying comentry in place. For example, there is one part of the film where they ask the girl if she is a Salmon or a trout. Whivh, for the stupid, is a pretty telling bit of comentry. Trout are rubbish, but salmon are refined and quality. A bit like the two girls in this photo..
OK, so more? er. The premise was crap. I often get frustrated at how many girl films try to dramatise glossy magazine companies, and also how they represent the process of job hunting. Really, the 'English' dude was totally unconvincing as the magazine editor. But thats irrelevent, it was a light hearted film. oh,yeah, it was a commedy. But the most important under tow, was, in theory, the debt/credit issue. Presumably trying to be with it, the main star couldn't help buying stuff. For me that was just such a wet and feeble plot structure. .

One thing I did like about it though was its setting in New York. Also, two girls in an apartment in New York. After discovering that she is in debt the two girls get drunk and write a few letters asking for money. The scene of them in the apartment trying to figure out a solution was quite touching, mainly because it hinted at a sense of freedom that only young people can have, and maybe more so because I never had that. But then they went outside drunk to post the letters, and whilst it was a very correct drunkness, again there was that sense of innocent youth in their innocent carefree posting of the letters, with not a care in the world, and certainly no concern of being mugged or anything.
Maybe im more interested in the cinematography than the film in its most direct sense. Im not into film really so I dont know the terms, and im sure there are probably quite a few discernable methods at play in this film here. For example, they way secondary characters are never that intrusive and the way old people are shocked and insulted at such and such. But always secondary characters.

In short, this is worth watching if your 15 and easily pleased. Made me laugh a few times, mainly because I wanted to laugh and I alloed it, but this is a pretty dull film really. If they had had the other cute girl the main star it would have been a great film, but she was not the main focus.
